The Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) is honored to review applications for the Thomas Buckley Memorial Endowment Fund.

Background:

The Thomas Buckley Endowment was begun by founder Juanita Reigle in memory of her husband Tom. Both Nita and Tom worked here at UVA Health. Tom began his UVA career in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Although he went on to serve in other positions at UVA, the NICU was still dear to him. After his passing in 2010, Nita and her daughters began the endowment fund to support the professional development of NICU and NETS nurses and nurse practitioners.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner in a 0.6 FTE or higher position with a minimum of one year of service in the UVA Neonatal Emergency Transport Services (NETS) or Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) prior to the application deadline.

Employment must also be maintained at a minimum of 0.6 FTE for the period of time up to and including use of the fund.

Education Funds:
The Memorial Fund must be used for neonatal nursing education related expenses such as conference registration/travel, books, tuition, certification, or speaker expenses for a UVA NICU sponsored nursing conference. Funds may be used to purchase educational materials that would benefit the NICU or NETS nursing team as well.

Process:

Distribution of up to $1,000 is available, and will be determined by the number of applicants. Along with their C/V or bio, all applicants must present a detailed description of how the funds will be used, if selected.

Recipient(s) will be announced at a presentation event during Nurses' Week each year in May.
